The reason for changing your routine is to shock your muscles. It also helps you get past fitness plateaus and always keeping your muscles guessing so they don't have time to adapt to a certain routine.
So instead of weight training 3 times a week, do 6 times a week, working each major muscle twice a week.
Do this for 3 months then take a week off and then go back doing your usual 3 times a week, and then go back again doing 6 times a week.
So weight training 6 times a week go light for the first 3 days, and then go heavy the last 3 days. This will totally take your muscles out of their comfort zone and you will get more results as well.
